Flow & Form: A Community in Motion

Since the beginning, dance at AS220 has been about more than movement—it has been a gathering place, a language of resistance, and release. Flow & Form honors the artists who help to shape and hold these spaces, the instructors whose steps guide and inspire, and the community that moves together in shared expression. This showcase is a tribute to the artistry and dedication of AS220’s dance instructors, presenting original choreographic works that embody the power of movement as connection. Each piece is a celebration of the spaces they cultivate, the stories they tell, and the bodies they empower. Through motion, we build. Through rhythm, we unite. Through dance, we become.

Mariana Paes - Brazilian Flamenco
A celebration of the anti-colonial nature of flamenco, mixing flamenco and Brazilian music.

Ann Ditmars - Echoes Again (excerpt)
The changing energies and moods in the second of Schubert's "Three Piano Pieces" (D.946) inspire and drive this contemporary ballet duet. Soft, daydreaming phrases repeat, intensify, and intersect as the dancers respond to the music and to one another. This duet is an excerpt from a longer ballet first created in 2018 for the Providence College Dance Company and adapted for AS220's (canceled) spring 2020 showcase.

Goddess Merline - Unravel
A look into my exploration of movement, rawness, authenticity, and ancestral expression.

Haus of Glitter - Mis Hijos
A meditation on healing, love, tenderness, inherited generational trauma, mothering and othermothering.

Amare Beyan - The Phoenix
The inspiration behind this piece stems from the journey of my transition. A new found revelation as an effect of healing and finding self love and self reflection. Being re born and transformed into the women I’ve always been. A powerful, strong, fierce androgynous black woman. Birthed from the ashes that once destroyed me. I’m on a path that symbolizes the phoenix.

Open Haus Ki - Open Haus Ki
Bringing the energy of Open Studio to the stage, showcasing Vogue, the dance category in Ballroom.
