Nowell November Arts Week

As some of you may know, AS220 youth currently partners with Nowell Academy to provide students with art programming opportunities throughout the year. One of them being Arts Week where we provide students with a week long of art classes and end with an Artist Showcase. We opened up with introductions and an Artist Talk by Chip Doug from YouthBuild and Tahj from Fitness Sanctuary. Both of them discussed the importance of owning our voice and identifying the power within our artistry, as well as art and entrepreneurship having the ability to be a means of a better life and future.

Throughout the week students were enthralled in screen printing, beat making, songwriting, photography, sewing, mural design, dance, and cosmetology. Instructors led them through hands-on demonstrations of each class and allowed students to walk away with their own piece of artwork.

We closed out Arts Week with an Artist Showcase where each class presented or performed the work they created throughout the week. There was singing, dancing, laughter, and good vibes to end the week.
