AS220 IMPACT: Lizzie Araujo
Lizzie Araujo-Haller
Current AS220 Board Member
Former AS220 Associate Artistic Director
“At the age of 19, I was directing and producing my own original theater work, and I needed a place to put it on. I knew that AS220 was a space for local artists. so I climbed the stairs at Richmond Street to see if I could book my play. Miraculously, Bert (AS220 Founder) said yes. I couldn't believe it. I was taken at face value. I did not have to prove my worth to get the show. It changed the trajectory of my life. Access and respect have become a part of everything I do. If you are lucky enough to have control of resources. it's your responsibility to share them. “
“AS220 belongs to the people. The people of Providence and Rhode Island own and shape its existence. Every audience member, artist, craftsperson, engineer, worker, bartender, and volunteer who walked through the doors shaped it. AS220 is constantly asking "Who needs this? How do we get ready to welcome them?" AS220 is an idea that is built to respond. “
