Christoph Heemann + Heathen Shame + Matt Krefting + VOSP

  • AS220 Black Box 95 Empire Street Providence, RI, 02903 United States (map)

A legendary figure in underground music, Christoph Heemann has quietly produced a unique body of work beginning with the absurdist tape cut-ups of H.N.A.S. in the mid-1980s. In addition to the precise cinema pour l'oreille constructions of his solo work, he has collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including Merzbow, Current 93, Nurse With Wound, and Jim O'Rourke, and has had longstanding partnerships in Mirror (with Andrew Chalk), In Camera (with Timo van Lujik) and Mimir (with Edward Ka-Spel of The Legendary Pink Dots). This will be his first New England performance in well over a decade.

Heathen Shame from Massachusetts is Greg Kelley (of Nmperign with Bhob Rainey), Wayne Rogers, and Kate Village (both of Major Stars and Twisted Village Records). In the 25+ years since their founding in 1999, they have been unleashing an onslaught of unbridled twin-guitar feedback and radical trumpet techniques that few artists can approach. They are the loudest free jazz trio in the world.

Matt Krefting is a writer and musician based in Holyoke, Massachusetts. His writing has appeared in The Wire, The Huffington Post, Bull Tongue Review, and elsewhere. A member of Son of Earth, The Believers, Idea Fire Company, and Sunburned Hand of the Man, he also creates his own solo music for cassettes. His music has been published by Open Mouth, Kye, and Ultra Eczema, among others.

VOSP is the project of Providence artist Eric Grieshaber, exploring a diverse and evolving practice rooted in ambient, experimental, and extreme electronic & synthesized sounds. He is a member of two of the most pioneering musique concrete acts found in the United States today—the subversive improv quartet Pool with CF (Kites), Ren Schofield (Container), and Alex Tominsky (Spiritual Recess), and the Ocean State exotica group Hand of Food with Dave Public and Dylan Going. He is also a co-founder of the record label Hold, and plays in the rock band 'FKA Lazy Magnet'. You can find his music on labels such as Load Records, Reserve Matinee, Alien Passengers, No Rent, and Hold.
