The AS220 Youth Studio may be currently closed, but staff are coming up with creative ways to get students out of the house and to keep them active! Read below for an update from Miche’le Fontes, the Site Manager at partner Nowell Academy.

“Last Friday was the first day of Intramural basketball for the sports programming at our partner site, Nowell Academy. As part of our research before we applied for the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant in 2018, AS220 took time surveying the students of Nowell to see what it is that they experience at school and what type of programs they’d like to see. One of the questions was, “What would make your high school experience at Nowell better?” And not too surprisingly, the students overwhelmingly responded with SPORTS! Nowell doesn’t have any sports teams and this was a huge missing piece for a lot of leaders. COVID postponed the plans but didn’t stop them! We finally launched our athletic programming this Fall starting with Zumba and now for Winter, BASKETBALL which is held at another partner site of ours, The Met High School!”
