Linda Chorney is an American singer-songwriter, who made history in 2012 by being the first independent artist to get nominated for a Grammy in the Best Americana Album category (for Emotional Jukebox) through a self-propelled social media campaign on the Grammy 365 social networking site. No manager, label, or publicist, just Linda! This nomination was the subject of controversy and heated debate by members of the Americana music community and even considered to have been unfair or a “gaming of the system” by some, miffed that a relatively unknown artist was beating out established veterans for the industry’s biggest showcase.
