AS220 has one affordable live studio available May 1, 2018 on Floor 3, the communal floor at 115 Empire Street in Providence.

The current vacancy is unit 306 is 300 square feet which rents for $360 per month, plus a $10 per month kitty contribution for cleaning supplies and various other communal expenses. The tenant is not responsible for any utilities. The units are subsidized and must be your primary residence. The annual gross income of the applicant can not exceed $25,250, though there may be some flexibility at this time. Your minimum annual gross income must not be below $8,800. You will have to include proof of income with your application in the form of 8 weeks of paystubs or some other third party documentation.

There is no parking included, it is a non smoking building, and no pets are allowed. Single occupancy only. You must be 21 years of age or over to live in this building. Aside from paying your rent on time each month each tenant is responsible for 5 hours per month in community service to AS220, respectful use of common facilities, completing assigned/shared chores for the common spaces, and attending monthly floor meetings. 

Residential artists must be committed to a cooperative living structure since you share the floor with 10 other people. You have your own room and share kitchen and bath facilities with your other floor mates. This space is in our main building on Empire Street. Please realize it is a noisy building between the performances downstairs, the dance studio down the hall and youth program on the second floor aside from being in an urban environment.

In addition to all of the amazing floor mates practicing in multiple artistic disciplines, and all of the potential incidental interactions with them, as a resident you receive several free blocks of time per month at the AS220 Industries (containing a printshop, media arts lab, and fab lab) and free access to shows at AS220’s Main Stage. It is a dynamic living environment for sure.

NOTE: There will be some construction on the floor while we put an elevator in the building possibly starting late Fall and into the Winter or early Spring so there will be some noise and disruption.  We are also making some improvements in the kitchen and bathrooms as part of an overall floor upgrade. After all this nobody will ever  want to leave! So be forewarned if you live here there will be some noise and disruption. We will do our best to minimize the impact on the floor.
