We are delighted to announce that AS220 Youth has recently received grants from the Hasbro Children’s Fund, the Black Philanthropy Bannister Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation, and Episcopal Charities! The funding from these foundations will support another year of AS220 Youth’s award winning programming.
A grant from the Hasbro Children’s Fund, the philanthropic arm of Hasbro, Inc., will allow AS220 Youth to make technology upgrades and increase digital literacy and creativity by incorporating new iPads, iPencils, and Mac computers into the visual art, music, and digital media programs. The new technology will ensure that youth members at our core sites (the Empire Street Youth Studio, the Rhode Island Training School, and UCAP Middle School) are developing industry-standard technical skills and expanding their innovative artistic practices.
Episcopal Charities and the Black Philanthropy Bannister Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation are both supporting AS220 Youth’s Futureworlds curriculum and programs. Since the first Futureworlds Afrofuturist fashion show in 2015, Futureworlds has evolved into both a collaborative arts showcase and a guiding pedagogy of the entire AS220 Youth program. Futureworlds provides a framework for young people to investigate social justice issues that impact their lives, imagine solutions, and work together to translate their findings into a large-scale, interdisciplinary art project.
Thank you to these foundations for supporting young artists at AS220!!
