Spring workshops (online)!
Drawing from Life – March 29th, April 5th, 12th, 19th / 6 – 8 PM

The workshop is a dive into figure drawing and how we can utilize this practice in our sketchbooks and daily lives when we don’t have time to sit down or hire a figure model. We will go over gestural drawing, drawing people in motion, portraiture, and sketchbook practices using traditional and nontraditional mediums. This is meant for high school students who are hoping to build their portfolios, people who are just beginning to dip their toes into the fine art world, artists/musicians/writers with a nonvisual-arts focus, and people who want to practice their drawing skills even when art isn’t a primary focus. Session 1 is “Still Life,” Session 2 is “Gestural Drawing,” Session 3 is “Landscape,” and Session Four is “Portraiture.”
Intro to Laser Art – March 30th, April 6th, 13th, 20th / 7 – 9 PM

The course is a four part series (2hrs per week) and covers an introduction to the design software, creation of the artwork, and the actual physical generation of the artwork by the instructor at the AS220 Industries lab and made available for pickup or shipment to you upon completion of the course. The entire process takes place online and is guided by the students each step of the way! No experience is required, but we strongly encourage students to have some experience with vector design.
Marionette Creation – April 1st, 8th, 15th / 6 – 9 PM

Participants will gain an understanding of how to create and work with a marionette. They will be able to walk away with the skills to come up with a concept for a puppet and create it at home. It aims to make puppetry accessible using household objects. Participants will also figure out the energy and character of their puppets, how to embody them, and craft a narrative to act out.
Graphic Design – April 8th, 13th, 15th, 20th, 22nd, 25th, 29th, May 4th / 6 – 8 PM

An intro to graphic design in 8 sessions with Adobe Illustrator! We’ll cover layout & composition, color theory, fonts, and more! Each lesson will be recorded and available to be re-watched whenever the student wants.
MICROCOSMOS: BIPOC a/v storytelling at micro-scales – April 13th, 15th, 20th, 22nd / 6 – 7:30 PM

Using lighting, color, sound, and motion, we will each craft a short, abstract video about an important memory or experience you’ve had, at an intimate microscopic scale. Participants will receive a microscope kit by mail prior to the workshop! This workshop is for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) only.
