Rock The Cradle, Dance It Up, and Howl at the Moon This Weekend at the Blackbox
There is so much happening at the AS220 Blackbox this Weekend! Running all weekend is that radical musical classic “The Cradle Will Rock.” Head Trick Theatre, which has previously put on music-heavy productions of straight plays, makes the jump to musical theatre with The Cradle Will Rock. Marc Blitzstein’s 1937 musical tells the story of Steeltown, USA, and the ordinary people who fight to stay alive as big business claims America’s interests as its own. Many decades later, not only is the political message that got Cradle’s premiere shut down still timely, but so is its stripped-down musical style, which combines speak-singing and pop parody with more traditional musical theatre numbers. Head Trick’s production will take inspiration from the musical’s legendary first performance, where actors played their roles from the audience.
Saturday afternoon at 2pm join us for a perennial free event that is not to be missed.Dance Works in Process is an unjuried, low-tech, choreographic sharing designed to provide emerging and established choreographers alike an opportunity to show work at various stages of development. The informal setting provides an opportunity for the participating artists to receive feedback from audience members based on specific questions and inquiries provided by the artist. Participating Artists: Angela Cole, Jessika Davis, ArVejon Jones, Allie Smith, Shannon Norquist.
And lastly, join us Sunday Night for the 3rd in a series of curated evenings in honor of the Moon produced by our own Artistic Director Shey Rivera!
