Residence@95 September: Frank Difficult’s “The Frank Difficult Presents Festival”
This month’s Residence@95 artist, Frank Difficult (Providence’s Prince of Video!) is unleashing The Frank Difficult Presents Festival, a six-day extravaganza of film screenings and performances featuring local artists and footage from bizarre and, quite possibly, different galaxies. All events will take place in the Black Box.
Tickets: $6 per screening/event; $10 for both screenings on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
SCHEDULE
Monday, September 23 and Tuesday, September 24, 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm:
New Difficult Tales screen-tests in the same improvised manner as the original footage; other local films and live performance by Gyna Bootleg and Dave Public.
Wednesday, September 25:
10pm: Live performances w/video from Gyna Bootleg/Dave Public duo, Leadbetter/Grieshaber duo, Matt Underwood solo, plus a rare Frank Difficult solo appearance.
Thursday, September 26:
8pm: Found footage cut-up madness from Craig Baldwin, Negativland, TV Sheriff, and Animal Charm from the Other Cinema archives.
10pm: A screening of experimental sex films and adult found footage from the Other Cinema archives. This program is for adults only – contains graphic material.
Friday, September 27:
8pm: Short films of Joe Quinn and Damon Packard, a tribute to some of the wildest independent filmmakers out there.
10pm: Providence Premiere of Damon Packard’s Foxfur plus selected shorts.
Saturday, September 28:
8pm: Found footage madness from the archives of the legendary Obsidian video store along with contributions from Dave Public. Featuring a live soundtrack from Alec K. Redfearn.
10pm: Local films and performance. Brand new Difficult Tales screen-tests shot on Monday and Tuesday, videos by Chrissy Jones (featuring Human Beast, Unicorn Hard-on and Father Finger). New films and (possible) live performance by Alec K. Redfearn and Orion Rigel Dommisse.
ABOUT FRANK DIFFICULT
Frank Difficult is a Providence-based filmmaker, musician, and writer. His professional film career began in the 1980s, when he worked as an assistant and editor for cult filmmaker Ray Dennis Steckler. He was the owner of the former Obsidian Video, co-manager of the former Newspeak Bookstore, and instructor at taught video production at URI and Emerson College, and has recorded and performed with many music groups, including V.Majestic, Barnacled, and Alec K. Redfearn and the Eyesores. Frank curates and hosts the monthly event, “Frank Difficult Presents,” which features film screenings and performance at AS220’s 95 Empire Black Box, and is currently producing Difficult Tales, an anthology webseries of short films of horror, sci-fi, and fantasy.
