NOVEMBER AT THE MAIN STAGE

NOVEMBER AT THE MAIN STAGE

November is the state sponsored month to be thankful. As such, we shall gather together in ritual reverie to bask in the glorious creations that we have reaped from within the hallowed walls of the Main Stage! Perhaps there will be turkey to share and cranberry sauce eyeliner, but I certainly can’t make any promises.

Many parents say they love all their children equally. But if calendar months of programming are children then I love November more than the others. This is the best month.

As always, here’s a partial listing of the month’s festivities and ponderings. For complete listings visit as220.org.

Note! The blue stuff are links!

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd:
FLIPPED OUT COMEDY: RICK SHAPIRO // RON BUSH // MATTHEW FLYNN // JOE DEGEORGE
Is it real? Is it a joke? Randy Bush’s agent has told us to make it clear this show is not affiliated with him and that Ron Bush is an imposter. Randy doesn’t really have an agent and he didn’t really tell me to say that, but I have included it for narrative purposes.

FIRST AND THIRD THURSDAYS:
PROVIDENCE POETRY SLAM
As the great Onyx once said, “Slam! Da duh duh, da duh duh!”

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH
OH MALO // EX-NATIONS // SEVEN HATS PARADE JONATHAN SOMETHING
There’s “chop suey,” there’s “pork chops,” there’s “chop blocks,” and then there’s just good old-fashioned CHOPS and boy oh boy do these cats have it!

SATUDAY, NOVEMBER 5th
THE HITS: FEATURING JAKE WHITE // NOLOC //  MANAMI
The poster for this show has a beautiful shiny diamond on it. Life is but a dream!

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8th:
ETC PRESENTS: ELECTION NIGHT SPECTACULAR
This is an electoral cabaret! Find out with live results and performance if the world will approach the apocalypse at breath taking speed or if the status quo will remain and we will approach our extinction at a slightly slower clip.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9th:
TORREY PINES  (STOP MOTION ANIMATED FILMS BY CLYDE PETERSEN) w/ WORK BY RACHEL BLUMBERG // XANDER MARRO
In addition to the incomparable Clyde Petersen’s new films, Rachel Blumberg will be performing a live improvised film score and Xander will be showing a selection of short films. This is what they call “must see TV.”

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10th
ETERNAL KHAN // HAIRSPRAY QUEEN // GOON PLANET // IMPLOSION CRUSADE
D-Beat, Black Doom, No Wave – what do these even really mean to you?!? All we really know is that Hairspray Queen is one of the finest offerings in all the lands.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12th:
BORED WITH FOUR // DIOS TRIO // HARRASTRONAUTS
Not so sure what they have against the number 4. I’ve always found it to be a quite pleasant number even though it has connotations with death in some of the Asian world.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 14th:
JEFF ROSENSTOCK // HARD GIRLS //KATIE ELLEN
God to many, villain to some, legendary to all, Jeff Frikkin’ Rosenstock of Bomb the Music Industry and The Arrogant Sons of Bitches graces our faces with blistering riffages.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15th:
ANNA & ELIZABETH // SEASCAPE LANDSCAPE // SIANNA PLAVIN // RAMSHACKLE ENTERPRISES
Pastoral and contemplative! Beautiful music and “crankies” that are known to bring even the hardest hearts of stone to tears.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16th:
THE ORBITING HUMAN CIRCUS FEAT. JULIAN KOSTER (NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL) AND THE MUSIC TAPES
This is the live recording of a podcast! The acclaimed and immensely popular Welcome to Nightvale presents Julian Koster’s first delving into the form of the podcast in front of your very eyes! Music by the Music Tapes! Elephant 6 telling stories! Oh by the way he was in Neutral Milk Hotel.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18th:
SAMMUS // CREAMER // ROSÉ PETAL // 1 AM
Not sure which of Sammus’ qualifications is most impressive “Producer, rapper, PhD student, and activist.” Take your pick and come witness what it means to “slay.”

Skateboarding. Hip Hop. Together at last in holy, holy, holy matrimony.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 26th:

The Short Short Story Film Festival highlights some of the world’s best “short-short” independent films, all of which tell a story in under six minutes. Produced by MergingArts right here in this city known as Providence.
