Come see the World Premiere of New Weird America at ASS220’s 95 Empire Street Theater!

Director Ari Rodriguez and the Folk Mantra Collective bring you New Weird America, a devised movement play centering around Chilean Folk Music by Violeta Parra and a Chilean folk dance form called the Cueca, a couples dance about flirtation. Explore the choreography of courtship as a type of speech, by enacting courtship through a borrowed traditional Chilean language, in an attempt to synthesize a distinctly American spirit of love and life, looking backwards and forwards, north and south. Get dropped right in the middle of a Chilean dance party!
