Ryan Dean is a resident of AS220 and a key member of the AS220 Printshop, where he works in letterpress, screen printing, and digital fabrication. He recently started LUMUKU, a small local business creating bilingual card games as a way of bringing people together.

“I was initially inspired to start making these bilingual playing cards after working for five summers at an English immersion program for Turkish children in Istanbul. It became very clear to me that the best way to learn anything was to have fun. So when I finally settled back home in Rhode Island, I decided to use my knowledge of printmaking to create games that would help people learn languages. These decks of cards were designed by me and printed on the offset press at AS220 Industries by my good friend Jacque Bidon, another AS220 resident and Industries key member.” – Words curtesy of the Artist

“Every so often I challenge myself to do a sketch per day over the course of a few weeks because it helps me to loosen up. One particular sketch of a bar of soap was inspired by the day’s events when a visiting friend from out of town fought a parking ticket to maintain her “clean” driving record. I liked this sketch of a bar of soap with boxing gloves so much that I turned it into a letterpress print for others to enjoy.” – Words curtesy of the Artist
