AS220 has one affordable live / work studio available starting June 1, 2019 on the communal 3rd floor at 115 Empire Street in Providence. Unit 313 is 314 square feet and rents for $430 per month plus a $10 per month contribution for communal expenses. This unit is subsidized and must be your primary residence. Your income cannot exceed $28,150. You must be 21 years of age to live in this building.

Given the fact that this unit is on a communal-living floor, it is for single occupancy only. Residential artists must be committed to a cooperative living structure since you share the floor with 10 other people. You are responsible for 5 hours per month in community service to AS220, respectful use of common facilities, completing assigned/shared chores for the common spaces on the floor, and attendance at monthly floor meetings. There is no parking included, it is a non-smoking building, and no pets are allowed.

AS220’s Empire Street complex is a busy beehive of activity and often noisy, with different programs, tenants, and active spaces on each floor of the building. If you need a lot of peace and quiet, it may not be for you. If you are looking for a lively living environment and are inspired by other activity this could be perfect!

We’ll be installing an elevator in the building over the next few months, so there will be some construction going on over the summer. It shouldn’t have too much impact on the floor but there will be some noise and some disturbances. We may also do an upgrade on one of the bathrooms soon.
