JANUARY AT THE BLACK BOX THEATRE

JANUARY AT THE BLACK BOX THEATRE

Greetings New Years’ Elves,

Us here over at the AS220 Black Box wish you a happy new year!  And what a better way to ring in the New Year then with experimental theatre!

The first full weekend of the New Year starts with a special early addition of Live Bait: Working, where you can put your name in a fish bowl and tell your own story related to the theme of this working life.  Saturday, January 7th brings us our late night dose of comedy with Improv Jones! at 10pm.

If you could not get enough of the interactive wrestling on display at Foo Fest last August, definitely come by Sunday night at 7:30pm for more wrestling action. There will be a full ring in the blackbox!  Def. not to be missed!  Monday the 9th sees another addition of From Scratch, AS220’s own works in process night for theatre and performance, curated by our own residents Corrine Wahlberg and Stuart Window.

On Thursday, January 12th, AS220 resident company, Counter Productions Theater Company presents the 2nd and final of their readings in winter series, with a free staged performance of David Valentin’s Isabel.

If you are looking for a little blood and laughs to warm up those winter nights, you must, must, check out Elizabeth Kesier’s masterful new work in progress HORRORFriday and Saturday, January 13th and 14th at 7pm!

Ring in MLK DAY an evening early with AS220. At 6pm, the evening starts with an open mic lead by members of AS220’s Youth Program, followed by the first and only public reading of AS220 Youth’s own Vatic Kuumba’s new play, A Furtive Movement: The Use of Farce.  Vatic’s play is also the 2nd project to be a part of AS220’s Community Live Arts Residency Initiative. This event will also contain an Ice Cream Social for Justice” in which members of the community can contribute their own stories to the play-in progress. Really do not miss this!

Hope to see you at the theatre!
