Introduction to Silkscreen – This Sunday

The Printshop is offering a two week silkscreen class, starting this Sunday, March 17th from 10am-2pm.  This course provides a two week introduction to silkscreen printing. Participants will learn the basics of screenprinting, using the photo-emulsion process. capable of a variety of ways to make positives, as well as registration and printing methods. Keymember Simon Slowinski will be teaching this class. The cost for the two week class is $85. To register for this class, please visit the AS220 Store.  This class is also running in April and May

Supplies you will need to bring

  • imagery to work from – drawings, photographs, text, on paper or as a computer file
  • opaque drawing tools (your choice of oil-based paint marker, poster paint marker, fast drying ink for film; I recommend “Permapaque”) – unless you plan to use a laser copied acetate as your positive
  • acrylic or textile printing ink, any color(s) – Speedball brand recommended
  • clear packing tape – Scotch brand recommended
  • pad of newsprint
  • paper to print on (any type will work, Bristol pads, printmaking papers)

Location and Parking
The AS220 Community Printshop is located at the Mercantile at 131 Washington Street Providence, Rhode Island on the 1st floor. The shop’s entrance is located at the back of the building on Lucie Way (Martha Street on GPS and computers); the shop’s double doors are at the Northwest corner of the building. There is 2 hour metered on street parking available, bring your quarters. We are also located near a parking garage with entry on Washington Street, look for the big blue parking sign.
