Thursdays. September 19, 26, Oct 3, 10, 17, 24; 6-10pm
Colorful ‘zines, single-page artists’ books, posters, and flyers can all be created in large quantities using the Printshop’s Offset Press. The first class will be spent in the Media Arts Lab using the Adobe Creative Suite to turn your ideas into formatted files ready for the press.
Five weeks will be spent on press with Jacque Bidon, where you will learn how to run the ABDick 9850 Offset Press – a commercial press capable of creating hundreds of prints in a matter of minutes. Finishing processes will be covered including folding using our pneumatic machine, using our saddle stitch stapler, and trimming on the guillotine.
Supplies you will need to purchase:
- A portable USB drive
- Paper to print on – Jacque will advise during first class
- Any plates you may need after using the two included in the price of the class (you can purchase these at the Printshop)
Supplies provided by the Printshop:
- Ink
- Palette knives
- Two offset plates
- Rags, solvents, rubber gloves, clean-up materials
About the Instructor:
Jacque Bidon is a commercial printer who left the world cutthroat deadlines and designers to work with artists sharing his love of offset printing. Jacque believes in the power of printing to change just about anything. Have a project that you want to see happen? Jacque is the guy with a career of commercial printing to draw upon for solutions.
Location and Parking
The AS220 Printshop is located in the Mercantile building at 131 Washington Street Providence, Rhode Island, on the 1st and 2nd floors. The shop’s entrance is located at the back of the building on Lucie Way (Martha Street on GPS and computers); ring the bell by the double doors. There is 2 hour metered on-street parking available, bring your quarters. We are also located near a parking garage with entry on Washington Street, look for the big blue parking sign.
Important Class Policies
Please be respectful of the short time you and the other participants have to learn, and arrive on time. If you are more than half an hour late, we will not be able to teach you what you signed up for. Plan ahead, it always takes time to find on-street parking.
To cancel your reservation, you must email lara@as220.org at least two weeks in advance, or risk losing your payment.
CANCELLATION OF CLASSES
If minimum number is not met in class enrollment, the teacher may opt to cancel class. If this is the case, we will give a full refund of class payment and first choice to enroll in future classes. We will attempt to give as much notice as possible.
