“In my imagery, I give the viewer a sense of hopeful solitude.” New FLAT-FILE Artwork by RI Artist Lauren Scotto
AS220 Galleries is ecstatic to announce new artworks through our AS220 Flat-File project, by Rhode Island based artist Lauren Scotto, which is available for purchase through the AS220 Art and Editions Website.
Lauren describes her artwork as, “I am constantly taking snapshots of my surroundings and mixing color in my mind. Nature, as well as the buildings and structure of the city inspire my work. My art is inherently moody, using color and texture to translate the feeling of a place. Working with acrylics, oils, ink, gouache, charcoal and mixed media collage has allowed me to explore different ways of conveying an emotional experience. In my imagery, I give the viewer a sense of hopeful solitude. Everything I make comes from a pensive point of view. It is my desire to share that with the viewer allowing them to reflect on the world from a quiet place.” – Words curtsy of the artist.
Lauren W. Scotto is an artist living and working in Woonsocket, RI. She received her BFA in Illustration in 2005 and her MAT in 2006 from the Rhode Island School of Design. She grew up in Smithfield, RI, and has had an interest in making and teaching art since her youth. In addition to her studio practice, she currently works as an art teacher, instructing advanced courses to high school students in Cumberland. She feels the marriage of artist and teacher feeds her passion for both; the constant creating of her own work keeps her teaching fresh and energetic, and, in turn, the reward of guiding and pushing her students fuels her personal growth in the studio.
