FROM SCRATCH is a series of work in progress sharings at AS220’s Ninety-five Empire Black Box Space.
Theatre and performance makers from the local community will ‘scratch’ their work and audiences are invited to be a part of its development. The evening will feature new and innovative artists making performance-based work in Providence, Rhode Island, and beyond and encourage feedback direct from audiences to shape new work.
COME TO THE FIRST EVER SCRATCH NIGHT IN PROVIDENCE! Featuring…
Confessions of a Recovering Catholic
Drawing from stories about her grandmother and memories of her childhood, Leann shares the story of growing up as a woman in the Catholic Church and her decision to leave through poetry and storytelling.
Amy Lee Connell & Shawn Fennell
A man, a woman, a deck of cards, and a prophesy of death and power that sends them spiralling into a treacherous game whose hands surprise but whose end is unavoidable. Shakespeare’s fatal classic re-imagined as a close-up card show.
Tickets $7. 100% of the proceeds go to the artists and producers to support the making of new work and the continued promotion of the FROM SCRATCH series at AS220.
What is Scratch?
Scratches are very new, very experimental iterations of work – nothing polished, nothing held back. Each night will be an opportunity to see how new performance and theatre work is made in a variety of disciplines including devised theatre, spoken word/comedy, new writing, and dance. Just being in the room helps artists develop their work further. Feedback will also be highly encouraged, an exciting opportunity for audiences to directly influence the development of new work.
