HEADLINING ACT: DAN DEACON

dan

Dan Deacon is an American composer and electronic musician based in Baltimore, Maryland. Since 2003, Deacon has released eight albums under several different labels. Deacon is renowned for his live shows, where large-scale audience participation and interaction is often a major element of the performance.

“Dan Deacon is an outstanding composer. He is also a goddamned instigator. So while he made his Carnegie Hall debut this year, a few weeks later he was getting 10,000 people to do crazy dances at a massive Occupy Wall Street rally in Union Square. Deacon has always made trailblazing music that moves people to do things they wouldn’t normally do.” – MTV

A founding member of the Baltimore, Maryland arts and music collective, Wham City, Deacon has released 8 solo albums, scored Francis Ford Coppola’s 2011 film Twixt, and has toured with Miley Cyrus, The Flaming Lips, Deerhunter, and No Age.

Deacon’s video, “Drinking out of Cups”, has been viewed more than 19 million times on YouTube. As the video spread, rumors of what the video was, and how it was made, quickly began forming. One popular rumor is that it is a recording of someone on LSD locked in a closet. Deacon has stated numerous times that this is not true. Deacon has also collaborated with Wham City Comedy, on Live Forever as You Are Now with Alan Resnick, an infomercial parody, created for Adult Swim.
