Learn how to sing the traditional American folk music known as “Shape-Note” or “Sacred Harp.” This unaccompanied, four-part harmony singing style started in New England in the 18th century, was developed in the American South in the 19th and 20th centuries, and is now practiced across the country and internationally. No musical experience is required to learn how to sing Sacred Harp. Ian Quinn, Professor of Music at Yale, will lead the singing school. The session will be interactive and participatory. In Sacred Harp singing, there are no performances and no rehearsals. Each event is its own unique gathering of participants.Come learn about this inclusive, loud, DIY singing style. You *can* sing!
