DESCRIPTION:
Origami, the art of paper folding, is beautiful and timeless, thanks to its simplicity. The word is of Japanese origin and is the combination of the verb “oru” – to fold and the noun “gami” – paper. It is a craft and hobby and art form practiced all over the world and is a part of many traditions and is a popular activity to do for a parent and child.
Come and learn how to create paper decorations, containers, animals, and toys with your child. You will fold with your child several projects to take home with you.
AGE RANGE
6-13 (a parent or adult must accompany the child to help or supervise the projects)
*younger students are welcome but will require additional assistance from the parent/adult
MATERIALS NEEDED:
All materials will be provided. Feel free to bring your own paper if you’d like but we will have paper for you to use and take home with you.
BIOGRAPHY:
Sok Song’s passion for folding paper has bloomed from a hobby he taught himself from books during his childhood to an award winning origami design business called Creased, Inc. His book Crease + Fold: Innovative Origami Projects Anyone Can Make, was published by Potter Crafts, an imprint of Random House. As a Teaching Artist, Sok has taught hundreds of classes in schools and afterschool programs as well as in workshops all over the world; spreading his passion and joy of folding to adults and children of all ages. He is the Creative Director and Publisher for Creased – Magazine for Paper Folders, a bi-monthly periodical dedicated to featuring new and unpublished origami designs from artist all over the world. In addition to the magazines and books, he has evolved the business into a creative services company incorporating origami and paper sculpture as a medium for advertising, graphic design, and installation. His work has been seen in magazines such as: Vogue, Vanity Fair, Elle, InStyle, Cosmopolitan, Pop, Marie Claire, Icon, Self, GQ, and L’Uomo and as well as in books published by Andrews McMeel Publishing, Firefly Books Ltd. (UK), and Quark Publishing.
