FREE SODA FLOATS UNTIL 9:30 COURTESY OF PROVIDENCE SODA CLUB
$7
Local groups Math the Band and Hugeface, with the sweet addition of free ice cream floats, invite you and your family to the kid-friendliest show to hit the stage at 115 Empire. Math the Band, whose instruments include a Nintendo synthesizer and whose energy and sound has been described as “bonkers” and “cocaine-esque,” will perform the musical rendition of your childhood sugar-highs. Math the Band, the two-person duo of Kevin Steinhauser and Justine Mainville, use a collection of “analog synthesizers, vintage drum machines and hacked video game systems connected to an ancient PC” to create synth-pop positive punk. This performance will be as “beautifully chaotic” as the crazy collection of archaic machines that Math’s music busts out of. Hugeface uses similarly wacky instrumental techniques in their electronically-synthesized-dual-drummer system, constructed to achieve the sound of electronic drums while capturing the excitement of live drumming performance. Jacob Nathan of Hugeface says this show will be “a survey of how far out from each other rock bands can get.” Although these bands will appeal to similar audience of crazy dancers, their sounds are vastly different. For a poppy and bubbly evening, treat yourself to Math the Band, Hugeface and a free float, compliments of Providence Soda Club.
