Coming up on April 7th we are back at our regular bimonthly concert series with old friends and new favorites.
Hailing from NYC for their first time on the series we have Bryan and the Aardvarks. Bryan Copeland formed the group in order to explore an inventive new sound that derived from his jazz training as well as his upbringing in pop and country music. The music he writes for the quartet combines a hushed intimacy with memorable, singable melodies and a narrative directness that nevertheless leaves space for expressive improvisation. In pianist Fabian Almazan, vibraphonist Chris Dingman, and drummer Joe Nero, he has assembled a distinctive ensemble able to flesh out his unique compositions. They are touring to support the release of their latest album Sounds From the Deep Field which will be released on Grammy Award winning artist Fabian Almazan’s new label Biophilia Records. The album is a mostly through-composed, 10 movement suite. Each movement is an interpretation of natural phenomena which exist in our universe. Also on the night is saxophonist Dave Murphy and his quartet made up of fellow local heavies Phil Mazza on guitar, Steve Johnson on bass, and Ben Dicke on drums. We’ve had the pleasure of hosting these musicians many times and each show brings out more vibrant compositions and improvisations than the last. They have some exciting new sounds for you all, so this a must see.
As always the door is $10 which goes to help support these incredible musicians, music kicks at 9:30pm.”
