In celebration of our 30th Anniversary, AS220 is delighted to unveil Presence, a specially commissioned oil painting by nationally recognized Rhode Island artist, Gretchen Dow Simpson.

From Simpson:
“I was deeply honored when Bert asked me to participate in the 30th Anniversary celebration of AS220 by making a painting! After taking a tour and meeting people I found a setting that caught my eye. It seemed to incorporate a feeling of friendship, light, space, possibilities and opportunities for artistic growth of young people. It was important to me that the students title the painting. I’m very happy about their choice of Presence.”

A team of Printshop members led by Ian Cozzens, Beth Brandon, and Brian Whitney, translated Dow Simpson’s painting into a special edition 10-color silkscreen print. The artists and printers spent months creating an image that faithfully reflects the color, texture, and ambiance of the painting. The edition of 220 prints was produced in its entirety at the AS220 Community Printshop and proceeds from the sale benefit AS220 Youth.wp-event

Special thanks to the Richard & Vera Gierke Family Fund for their generous support in recognition of the exceptional work and impact of 30 years of AS220.
