This will be a very *special* scratch night as part of PVDFest Weekend! FROM SCRATCH will be inviting up to eight artists to participate in scratching for audiences in our first free event. It’ll be a chance for the general public to experience what a scratch is and some of the innovative work that happens in the room when Scratch Night happens! If you’re a regular – come and enjoy more acts than ever before. If you’re brand new – prepare to be delighted by a variety of new works in development.

What is SCRATCH?
Scratch is a platform designed to facilitate artists in exploring ideas in front of an audience. The idea of ‘scratching work’ was born the Battersea Arts Centre in London and has since become a way for companies developing new performance-based work and theatre communities build new and exciting connections with audiences. There are diverse ways of presenting scratches. Each ‘performance’ is anywhere between 5 to 20 minutes long and can present any iteration of an idea being put in front of audiences, whether it’s the first time the work is on its feet or a stage in development along the way to becoming a full-length work.
What to expect…
FROM SCRATCH will feature up to eight companies presenting work around ten minutes long. Scratches are very new, very experimental iterations of work – nothing polished, nothing held back. Each night will be an opportunity to see how new performance and theatre work is made in a variety of disciplines including devised theatre, spoken word/comedy, new writing, and dance. Just being in the room helps artists develop their work further. Feedback will also be highly encouraged, an exciting opportunity for audiences to directly influence the development of new work.
Since this show is FREE we will be asking for donations as it is a huge part of scratch that artists get PAID. If you have a couple of bucks to support the artists, all donations will be distributed to the artists at the end of the evening.
