Theatre and performance makers from the local community will ‘scratch’ their work and audiences are invited to be a part of its development.
Tickets $7. 100% of the proceeds go to the artists and producers to support the making of new work and the continued promotion of the FROM SCRATCH series at AS220.
The evening will feature new and innovative artists making performance-based work in Providence, Rhode Island, and beyond and encourage feedback direct from audiences to shape new work.
SO FAR WE’VE GOT
Thinking Too Much About Growing Up
Laura A. Kaplan
Part comedy routine, part creative public speaking, Laura will speak on the ridiculousness of choosing a profession to aspire to in preschool and how she rationalised some of the sexist attitudes she faced as a preschool student in the late 80s.
Streetlight Necks
Alicia Ortiz
Brief Description Of Ideas You’re Working On (required): A poetry collection attempting to capture the fragility and yearning of a city in the summer. Very Providence centric. The fluctuation of human traffic through the year. Tension between change and sedation.
Lastly, Christopher Johnson will also be bringing us a little something he’s been working on that’s brand new!
What is Scratch?
Scratches are very new, very experimental iterations of work – nothing polished, nothing held back. Each night will be an opportunity to see how new performance and theatre work is made in a variety of disciplines including devised theatre, spoken word/comedy, new writing, and dance. Just being in the room helps artists develop their work further. Feedback will also be highly encouraged, an exciting opportunity for audiences to directly influence the development of new work.
