FESTIVAL51: RHODE ISLAND’S WOMEN’S PLAYWRITING FESTIVAL
Premieres New Work By Female Playwrights at AS220 July 15th – 24th

Providence, RI — Festival51, Rhode Island’s Women’s Playwriting Festival will present four plays featuring the work of winning playwright’s from July 15-24 at AS220’s Black Box Theatre at 95 Empire Street. Nights will feature two winning scripts will be performed each night in repertory.

While women make up 51% of the world’s population, the fact still stands that only 17% of plays produced in this country are female authored. Rhode Island-based Festival51 aims to change those numbers by putting women writers center stage in their 2nd annual Women’s Playwriting Festival. After receiving over 400 short play submissions from female writers all over the globe, 15 times the number of scripts received last year, the producers selected four winning scripts: Fabulous Monsters by Diana Burbano; Birds of a Feather by June Guralnick; The Difficult People by Jean Hartley Sidden; and Allergen by Jess Honovich.
