Workshop Description
Learn how to use the laser cutter to cut or etch wood, plastics, papers or textiles. This class will cover the basics of using the laser cutter safely, techniques for working with different materials, and software tools for preparing work for the cutter. This is a hands-on workshop; bring a project if you like! We have an Epilog Mini 24 Laser Cutter. The work area is 24″ x 12″, and it can hold items up to 8″ tall. We also have a cylindrical attachment that allows you to etch cylinders such as glassware.
In the first session, you will learn and get trained on the machine. In the second session, you will do a simple project to complete your training on the machine.
After taking the workshop, you will have a solid understanding of what the machine can do and how to design a project. Students will be certified to use the Labs’ laser cutter after completing this follow up session.
Instructor: Hong Chau
Prerequisites
While it’s not mandatory, we strongly encourage students to have experience with vector design. If you have no experience and are not comfortable designing on a computer, we recommend taking on of our computer design workshops here:
