Can a dance be destroyed?
Dance artist Leyya Mona Tawil builds the dance on location in one day.
In performance, the dance destroys itself.
Destroy// Providence will be at AS220 with a cast of local dancers and percussionist Sarah Hennies. The performance is composed, but untethered. The artists attempt a work imbedded with mechanisms that make its execution increasingly impossible, forcing the material into stages of evolution and deterioration.
Destroy// Providence, presented by AS220 and in partnership with the Alliance of Artists Communities Conference 2015, is part of the DANCE ELIXIR’s Destroy// All Places project – which has visited over 19 cities including St.Petersburg, Rome, Cairo, Athens and Berlin. Over 100 artists have participated in the project internationally.
