Live Bait was Meant to Be

It all started with an off-handed remark, a casual suggestion to Live Bait founder, Phil Goldman that he might want to start a true storytelling event here in Providence. Phil took this suggestion (lightly) and made his own off-handed remark to Vanessa Gilbert, then Artistic Director at Perishable Theatre. Vanessa called Phil’s bluff and put it up as a monthly show. Live Bait almost immediately became a local cult sensation and has been going strong ever since, almost six years now. Some say it was the right idea at the right time and the right place; others say it was MEANT TO BE.

If anyone has a true-life story that in any way, shape or form fits June’s theme, “Meant to Be,” they merely have to come to Live Bait, put their name in the fishbowl and, when their name is called, come up and tell it. (Just so long as it is a story and it is true.) Please keep in mind: no notes, no rants, no stand-up routines, and there is a six minute time limit. And of course, all are more than welcome to simply sit back and listen.

Live Bait is hosted by Phil “The Host” Goldman, with banter, musical accompaniment and monthly theme song by Jerry “The Professor” Gregoire.
