Get on the ground floor for a community-run radio station: 101.1FM!
AS220, Providence Community Radio (PCR), and Brown Student and Community Radio (BSR) want to bring truly local free-form and non-corporate radio to the airwaves of Providence. And we want you to be involved— whether that means coming into the studio to produce programming or solder wires together, or tuning your radio dial to us, or anything in between! Come meet us to learn what we’re up to— who we are, what we’re doing, who we could become, what we could be doing. And, if you want, find yourself a role in our project!
Our three groups have each been awarded permits by the FCC to go ahead with construction of low-power FM broadcast facilities. To do so, we agreed to share time on one frequency, 101.1. We have also chosen to co-locate our transmission facilities, and so are working together during the construction and fundraising phase of this project.
Once we are on air— with any luck, that means early this summer— 101.1 will be comprised of programming from three different broadcasters. While there are affinities between each of our organizations, we will constitute three distinct and different broadcasting entities.
We will introduce ourselves and our broadcasting projects, provide a timeline of our road to getting on air, and explain ways in which you can get involved. In between these announcements, we’ll also feature preview performances of local artists and programmers so your ears can get a taste of what 101.1 might sound like.
We’ll also leave plenty of time to answer any questions you might have, and for all of us to get talking to each other about what our community radio might sound like.
