Downtown Providence as Cultural Hub

Downtown Providence as Cultural Hub

Thurs, Nov 21st // 5:30pm-7:30pm // AS220, 115 Empire St., Providence, RI

Free admission. Free parking available, see info below.

Join AS220 and the City of Providence Department of Art, Culture + Tourism on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. for a community conversation about the cultural life of our downtown. This will be a community conversation that will map resources, gather ideas on how to further activate downtown and how it can better respond to the needs of underserved communities, and we also hope to foster a network of active agents that engage in dialogue on how to improve our communities.

We will engage in dialogue on how community already uses downtown and gather ideas on what are the needs of the community and how to further activate Downtown Providence as a Cultural Hub. The evening will start by collectively and visually mapping out the resources available in downtown. We will also present an overview of resources available through AS220 and the Department of Arts, Culture+Tourism in Providence, Rhode Island. The evening will close with a review of thoughts and trends identified through the conversation and recommendations for next steps.

Share your experience of downtown arts and culture with others. Bring ideas about how your organization might contribute downtown’s vibrancy – and what you might need to help you realize the downtown arts & entertainment district’s full potential. This event will be a great networking opportunity for leaders and active agents in the community.

Free admission. We will begin at 5:30pm sharp. Light snacks will be served and The Bar @ AS220 will be available.

Free parking for event attendees is available in the parking lot behind the Joseph A. Doorley, Jr. Municipal Building on Greene Street. Additional information about downtown parking fees is available at http://parkdowntownprovidence.com. Bus schedules are available at http://ripta.com/.
