Make a flex frame bag!

In this course, participants will learn how to use a sewing machine by making a business cardholder. Learn how to wind bobbins and set up the upper and lower thread before learning about basic stitches and revise stitching on the sewing machine. No prior knowledge is needed. Just bring your business card and you are good to go.

REGISTER HERE

This class will cover the basics of using the lasercutter safely, techniques for working with different materials, and software tools for preparing work for the cutters.  Our laser cutter is an Epilog Mini 24.  The work area is 24″ x 12″, and it can hold items up to 8″ tall.  After taking the workshop, you will have a solid understanding of what the machine can do and how to design a project and will be certified to use the Labs’ laser cutter.

Get certified to use the 4’x8’ ShopBot for medium and large format woodworking projects.

  • Saturdays, May 9th + 16th, 2-6pm

This workshop is for anyone interested in using a CNC Router for digital fabrication, specifically the ShopBot machine for computer-controlled cutting and routing. The course covers an introduction to the ShopBot, Computer-Aided Design software to design projects for the machine, creation of 2D tool paths for the machine using VCarve Pro, and basic machine operation and safety.  You will learn how to safely operate the machine on your own, so that you may use the machine independently after completing the training and signing up for membership.

Our machine is a ShopBot PRS standard 96 with a cutting area of 96″ (x-axis) x 48″ (y-axis) x 6″ (z-axis). The machine is capable of machining 2D parts (profile, pockets, drilling) and making 3D carvings.  This workshop only covers 2D tool paths, not 3D carvings.

This workshop consists of two parts, 1 3-hour instructional session and a followup session on the machine where you run a project on the machine.

3D printing is the easiest way to go from an idea to a physical object with limitless applications. Learn how to operate our in-house 3D Printers and get started on your first 3D Printing projects. 3D Models for printing can be found all over the internet, and you can even design your own. No prior experience required!

AS220 Labs is located at the Mercantile at 131 Washington Street Providence, Rhode Island on the 2nd floors. The shop’s entrance is located at the back of the building on Lucie Way (Martha Street on GPS and computers); ring the bell by the double doors. There is 2 hour metered on-street parking available, bring your quarters. We are also located near a parking garage with entry on Washington Street, look for the big blue parking sign.Important Class Policies
Please be respectful of the short time you and the other participants have to learn, and arrive on time. If you are more than a half an hour late, we will not be able to teach you. Plan ahead, it always takes time to find on-street parking.
To cancel your reservation, you must email Industries@as220.org at least two weeks in advance, or risk losing your payment.Cancellation of Classes
If minimum number is not met in class enrollment, the teacher may opt to cancel class. If this is the case, we will give a full refund of class payment and first choice to enroll in future classes. We will attempt to give as much notice as possible.

In Digital Music Production 2, offered in the Media Lab at AS220 Industries, participants develop the skills to polish, mix, master, and distribute their own original songs. As a continuation of Digital Music Production, participants are encouraged (but not required) to provide an unfinished Logic Pro X project to work from. Through the process of learning the elements of mixing, mastering and distributing, participants can walk away from the class with radio quality files of their own songs.

This workshop is split into two sessions. The first focuses on the process of mixing and enhancing sound elements within the production software. The second session is focused on mastering and distribution. Participants learn how to bring their music production to a high enough volume and quality standard for distribution on all major music platforms. Acquiring knowledge of labels and distribution, participants will be able to leave this workshop with the ability to release songs on platforms like Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, Pandora, Tidal, Google Play, etc.
