Javascript is the primary language for making complex applications on the web. This course introduces javascript program code, explains how it is authored, and explores the current developer ecosystem. Topics will include control flow, using libraries, how to continue learning on your own (how to find and understand online references), and current trends such as Github, Jquery, and NodeJS. The course will be tailored toward your interests, so come prepared to talk about what you want to make on the web!

Instructor: Jacob Brennan has been writing Javascript since 2001. He does freelance web development including work for Mozilla. His hobbies include juggling, baking, and programming web games using NodeJS.

Location and Parking

AS220 Media Arts is located at the Mercantile building at 131 Washington Street Providence, Rhode Island, on the 2nd floor. The entrance is located at the back of the building on Lucie Way (Martha Street on GPS and computers).  You’ll see our sign on a set of double doors; ring the doorbell there and someone will let you in. There is 2 hour metered on-street parking available, bring your quarters. We are also located near a parking garage with entry on Washington Street – look for the big blue parking sign.

Important Class Policies
Please be respectful of the short time you and the other participants have to learn and be on time. If you arrive more than half an hour late, we will not be able to teach you what you signed up for. Plan ahead, it always takes time to find on-street parking. To cancel your registration, you must email at least two weeks in advance, or risk losing your payment.

If the minimum number is not met in class enrollment, the teacher may opt to cancel class. If this is the case, we will give a full refund of class payment and first choice to enroll in future classes. We will attempt to give as much notice as possible.
