PRESS RELEASE

BREAD & PUPPET THEATER TO PERFORM AT 95 EMPIRE SPACE SUNDAY MAY 24TH AND MONDAY MAY 25TH AT 8 PM

Bread and Puppet Theater comes to AS220’s 95 Empire space this Memorial Day weekend for two rousing evenings of brass band music and radical puppet performance. The company will perform one of director Peter Schumann’s newest creations, entitled “The Public Access Center for the Obvious Presents: The Situation.”  This darkly comedic puppet play is a musical memorial for the already extinct Western Civilization and features such timely relics as an anti-extinction angel, the union of brooms, a 100 watt light bulb, a rampaging rhino, and a ship of fools: all for the purpose of urging the not yet upriser masses into existence.

Based in Northeastern Vermont, Bread & Puppet is now in its 52nd year of touring and performing in the United States and abroad. Using a wide variety of puppetry and mask techniques, the theater troupe attempts to address the social, political, and environmental urgencies which affect all of our lives. Peter Schumann and The Bread and Puppet Theater have received the Obie Award, the Erasmus Award from Amsterdam, The Vermont Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, and the Puppeteers of America Award.

Performances are Sunday May 24th and Monday May 25th at 8pm. Tickets are $12 advance and $15 at the door ($8/$10 for students and seniors). Schumann’s famous sourdough rye and aioli will be served after the show, and Bread & Puppet Cheap Art will be available for your perusal.
