AS220 YOUTH VISITS PRETTY SNAKE
Last week AS220 Youth‘s apparel designers visited the studio of Joe Segal aka Pretty Snake, a Providence fashion designer and Project Runway Season 11 contestant. One student, Sergio, had this to say about the visit:
Joe’s studio felt a little bit creepy walking in, it felt like a haunted house of artists. His studio has just enough space for a person to hang around. He’s making designs for fabric to sew sweaters, skirts, dresses, bathing suits. His custom fabrics are cool, they have patterns that he created by taking pictures of real life objects, for example a Christmas tree covered with ornaments. He explained that he would decorate two trees next to each other and take pictures and then made custom fabric from the pictures. It was cool seeing how one person can run their own business. All I know so far is how to sew a little bit, but I want to get into sewing shirts or anything easy and hopefully someday get into sweaters and pants. Seeing the way he prints in his studio made me want to learn how to screen print at AS220.
