Join AS220 Youth as they take over AS22O’s Empire Street complex on Saturday, September 9th, from 8 – 11 PM, for the third installment of their annual FUTUREWORLDS performance extravaganza!
In 2016, Futureworlds: UPRISING, an Afrofuturist hip-hop theatre production, told the story of Sattah X and Jay, two teenagers living in the heart of a dystopian city of Providence who join forces with an underground resistance and lead a revolution against dictator Wallace Fitzgerald, the living embodiment of unbridled capitalist greed and oppression.
September 9th marks Liberation Day! Come celebrate and partake in:
The Dystopian Museum – Take a tour of AS220 Youth’s studios on the second floor of Empire Street where you can SEE, HEAR and LEARN about the archaic systems of oppression once used to keep society down and under control!
Futureworlds Marketplace – In the Aborn Room and Psychic Readings space on the second floor of Empire Street, browse and choose from a dazzling selection of one-of-a-kind hand-made works of art, crafts, and other goods from the members of AS220 Youth!
Theatre / performance – AS220 Youth Performance Coordinator Vatic Kuumba will be enlivening our Black Box theatre with works created and performed by members of the Live Arts team!
Music – AS220’s Main Stage will pulse all night long with beats from a variety of musical genres and, of course, HIP-HOP, featuring all original material written and performed by AS220 Youth’s performance troupe ZUKREWE and the other young musicians and artists who make up the program!
Fashion – Harkening back to the first edition of Futureworlds in 2015, the fashion show is returning! Check out the fresh styles that will be on display, created by members of the Apparel Design team!
Food – AS220 FOO(d) will be open for business, serving a one-time only Futureworlds-themed menu. Get it while you can!
Futureworlds 3: Liberation is open to all ages. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for those 21 and under, and FREE for children aged 5 and under.
