Blog by Youth Member Catherine Mendez:
For the fourth year, AS220 and RISCA (Rhode Island State Council on the Arts) come together. Once again, the Atrium Gallery is holding its Annual Youth State Exhibit. Many of the AS220 youth members get the chance to be featured in this amazing annual gallery show from doing work in art, photography, design and much more. The opening of this gallery will be Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 6- 8pm. With the opening comes a performance by 2logit and ZuKrewe. The gallery will run from January 16 – February 3rd 2014. I got a chance to sit down with AS220 Youth Photography Coordinator Scott Lapham and talk to him about the Atrium Gallery.

-What makes this gallery so unique?
Its huge and AS220’s youth program is being asked to fill it all up with our own work.
-What are you excited for in this gallery?
I’m excited for the opportunity to show AS220’s work from the training school and our new apprentice program.
-Is there anything different this year from the past 3 years of this gallery?
Yes, this year for the first time we’re showcasing the training school program and the apprentice program. We’re excited to show all the work from the students.
-Tell us something about this gallery that we don’t know already.
That by being in this gallery, our work will be seen by hundreds, maybe thousands of people.
Come in to join the excitement and excellent work as220 youth members have done while enjoying performances and food. Don’t forget to bring a friend along for the amazing time.
