AS220 Youth Futureworlds Presents: UPSIDE UP a Dance Showcase
Enter a world created by AS220 Youth Studio , where light shines in the dark, and where darkness disguises itself in the light. Where repeated cycles of generational curses are brought forth to the table, the dance floor, the stage, and are broken down, discussed, and rebuilt. UPSIDE UP takes what is expected of a regular dance show, and flips it upside down while dismantling the white supremacist symptom of ‘worshiping the written word: the belief that there is only one right way.Here, in our FUTUREWORLD, we find a way to bridge that duality through stories, movement, and expression. Come join us in a world where perfection is expected, but it’s not what it seems, where everything is just made up, until it is felt.

AS220 Youth centers artmaking in a social justice context, culminating annually in the AfroFuturist inspired Futureworlds showcase. Every year our young people unite to present a youth-led, year long multimedia project that blends elements of art, popular culture and visionary fiction to reimagine a more just and equitable world free from systems of oppression. It has taken the form of a fashion show, festival, and a play.

The purpose of Futureworlds is to give young people the space and resources to create highly visible work that transforms the way we think about art, community and justice.
