In roughly six weeks, we will find out whether AS220 Youth, AS220’s free arts education program serving young people ages 14-21 with a special focus on those in the care and custody of the state, will be one of 12 national organizations recognized by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities for excellence in programming. The National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award is the Nation’s highest honor for out-of-school arts and humanities programs that celebrate the creativity of America’s young people, particularly those from underserved communities. This award recognizes and supports excellence in programs that open new pathways to learning, self-discovery, and achievement. Each year, the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards recognize 12 outstanding programs in the United States, from a wide range of urban and rural settings.
Please stay tuned over the next five weeks as we await the results of the 2012 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards, for we will be offering weekly blogs profiling the areas of concentration within AS220 Youth: Communications, Photography, Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Video Game Design. See what we are doing every day to affect the lives of the young people we serve.
