September 2021:

While AS220 Venues aren’t yet fully reopened to pre-pandemic operations, we are now hosting “Streaming Sessions” in the Black Box with audiences of up to 30. Due to the limited audience size, tickets will be pre-sold online.

Our streaming / recording set up is a multi-camera, multi-audio channel recording at the AS220 Black Box at 95 Empire Street. Here’s a little sample of what it looks like. The stream is free for folks to access but donations are encouraged and we put up a donation link on the video. The streams go out to AS220’s digital platforms (Youtube, Instagram, Facebook). They remain online following the performance and AS220 can also send the video / audio files to you.

For sessions with a limited audience: Audience members must remain masked at all times and performers must be masked when not performing. Food and Drink are not permitted in the Black Box. We encourage patrons to hang out at the restaurant prior to door time for the show.

To maintain accessibility, performers can also choose to have their sessions in a closed environment without an audience. The option also remains to record sessions and air them at a later date after they are edited.

We hope to have an update soon about venues opening to larger audience cap sizes.

AS220’s LIVE ARTS performance spaces are unjuried and uncensored forums for the the arts. Live Arts offers every artist residing in our small state an opportunity to perform or exhibit their original work within our walls.

The program operates four performance spaces:

The venues host over 500 events every year and serve artists of all levels, providing a home for work in music, theatre, dance, film, literary arts, sound-art, performance art and forms that stretch genre conventions. The program is committed to creativity, accessibility and affordability; it strives to create incomparable experiences for our audiences as well as unique approaches to arts education that extend and deepen the venues’ programming.

In addition to events presented through the various performance spaces, Live Arts offers a wide range of workshops, classes, talk-backs and artist-talks that are aimed at developing skills, creating awareness and fostering creative critical discourse around and through the subject of performance.

The Live Arts program at AS220 sees itself as a facilitator of and cheerleaders for developing new, original, interdisciplinary art practices. To this end, we have a number of different artist residences designed to further develop Rhode Island as a major incubator for artist production in New England.

As part of ASS20’s mission to promote local talent, we also have a Community Curators program developed to help burgeoning artists find those with similar interests in the region.
