ARTIST TALK with MARA METCALF

Bird’s Eye View is a series of elegant new works by Mara Metcalf that employs abstraction to suggest physical worlds that are ever in flux. Using ink, acrylic, and collage on paper and Pellon,(a type of fabric),  Mara embodies nature:  “A  bucket of water, ink and the power of gravity are my methods. Sometimes it’s the garden hose splashing on the surface of cloth or paper.” Mara’s methods open up the works creating “elusive associations” expanding the depth and range beyond the controlled hand of the artist.Mara is a member of the faculty at the Musuem School of Boston, teaching drawing and mixed media since 1991. She received the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2010 and was nominated again in 2015. Come by this Friday to see the work and to learn more about Mara and her work process.
