Artist Talk with Karina Puente // July Artist in Residence

AS220’s July Artist in Residence, Karina Puente will give a talk at the AS220 Main Gallery at 115 Empire St. on Friday July 31st at 5 p.m. She will discuss her current artist residency experience at AS220 and will share techniques and tips from her studio practice. Karina Puente is an interdisciplinary artist and educator whose work focuses on the emotional impact of scale.

For her residency at AS220, Puente letterpress printed a series of oceanic themed 5”x5” cards and by night she experimented in hand cutting over 100’ of Papel Picado ; in the tradition of Mexican paper cutting.

Puente is based in Philly where she works with the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and teaches foundational mural making. During the last two weeks of her residency Puente led a six class mural making workshop for the AS220 Youth to expand their notions of scale as it relates to confidence as an artist.
