Womanimation!, the premiere showcase in the United States of international women’s animated short films, returns to Rhode Island for a special one-day only engagement at AS220 in Providence on Saturday, June 25th.

Eleven short films from Europe, Asia, and North America, the festival blends styles such as traditional 2-d hand drawing, stop motion, and computer animation.

With world and US premieres and New England and East Coast premieres amongst the films, the festival offers a rare chance for local audiences to sample the world of women’s animation.

Though never longer than 20 minutes, and sometimes under five, the films emphasize well-developed narratives. Themes run the gamut from more female-centric themes like motherhood, body image, and gender roles, to more universal themes like family relationships and the cycle of life.
