Subject: Purported Directed Deception
About a month ago I witnessed a certain OSFN user
purportedly tainting the Poland Spring Water with tap water.
I say purportedly because he may have only been "Tricking"
certain individuals into thinking it had been tainted and not
ACTUALLY have tainted said water, but merely made it appear
so. This is what occurred:
I filled my 50.7 ounce Poland Spring water bottle with
Poland Spring water from the water cooler in the public
square. At this time the water jug was about 1/4 full.
{I drink all of this water. By filling my container
I save time by not having to make multiple trips to the
cooler. I do not water plants with this water. Again,
I drink ALL of this water. As far as I know this is
exactly what this water is meant for; For ALL of OSFN
to enjoy.}
For some unknown reason my filling of my water bottle really
upset the aforementioned OSFN user. I went about my daily
business. I left the public square to chat with Ben for a few
minutes and then returned. Upon returning I saw this particular
user replacing the jug of water that was in the cooler with
another jug of water that was about 1/2 full. I don't believe
there were any unopened full jugs of water in the Admin building
during this episode. The only conclusion I could logically draw
at the time was that the 1/4 full jug of actual Poland Spring
water was removed by aforementioned OSFN user, filled with
tap water to roughly 1/2 way and then replaced.
What was his impetus for this action? Why have a cooler of
Poland Spring water on the system if certain individuals feel it
is their prerogative to do with as they please. This water is
for EVERYONE to enjoy.
Since the above episode has occurred there is a "select few"
on OSFN that are privy to the actual tainted/non tainted
status of the Poland Spring Water Cooler. In retrospect, I
believe this water was actually only tainted once (the incident
described above), but since then this "select few" have had
many-a-laughs by making those "outside of their circle" unsure
as to what water is actually being dispensed from the Poland
Spring water cooler. They have implemented their deception with
various props (picture of Kevin Mitnick over the cooler) and many
innuendoes. The following people don't "trust" the Poland Spring
cooler on OSFN and obtain their Poland Spring water from the
library:
Adam Dupont
Sean O'Neill
Joshua Marketos
Joe Leduc
others that I am unaware of
some people that I don't know
Toilet or tap water certainly will not harm anyone. That is not
my concern or the point. This has become a matter of principle
and directed deception.
If certain individuals on OSFN are not mature enough to "manage"
the water cooler as intended, such that EVERYONE can enjoy a cup of
Poland Spring water WITHOUT question, then I suggest it be removed
from OSFN.
If certain individuals on OSFN obtain their jollies by continuing
this directed deception, such that only the "select few" can enjoy a
cup of Poland Spring water, then I suggest the water cooler be removed
from OSFN.
I suggest that the water cooler that presently resides in the public
square be placed in an area of the system where more mature users hang,
like the general-discussion board or be removed from OSFN if such a
location cannot be found.
