“There are many ways in which picture framing has been made inaccessible to artists/art lovers both financially and in traditions surrounding limited visibility of process. Framing is a very concrete and straightforward skill/trade that is innately riddled with lots of imperfection and problem solving, no matter how experienced the framer. It will try your patience, and always take longer than you think. There are many different styles of framing, from white glove/museum, to production framing to DIY. I have worked in a variety of ways it is important to acknowledge that there are many ways to do the same thing. As a working artist, DIY framing is the closest hitting to home for me and I am so grateful for the opportunity to teach and provide access for others.”

Open Level Modern Dance @ AS220 Live Arts Dance Studio
Jul 8 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Open Level Modern Dance with  Katie McNamara // Wednesdays @ 6:30-8pm // $13 per class; $60 for 6 classes

This open level class welcomes a wide spectrum of movers who want to explore fundamental physical connections and integrate those within expressive movement. The class begins on the floor in explorations of weight, momentum and range of motion in joints. Moving to a mid-level we will take time to condition the muscles within efficient patterns. In standing we investigate the dynamics of opposition in balance, gesture and weight shift to traverse the space across,  under and around.   All are welcome!

Katie McNamara is a dance artist, a cook, a mother and a teacher. Along with her husband Olase Freeman, she co-directs their company, BaldSoul, within which they strive to find the locus where art and life coexist.  Their most recent work is parenting a beautiful boy, Kayin Effie. Katie spent her preliminary professional years in Philadelphia where she danced with Group Motion, Scrap Performance Group and Leah Stein Dance Company. She was deeply influenced by the city’s diverse artistic community and the raw spontaneity of it‘s stage.  During this time she also co-founded and directed the Bald Mermaids, named “best new modern dance company” by Philadelphia’s City Paper.  Her work has been shown at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, Philadelphia’s Painted Bride Art Center, the Carriage House, Galapagos Art Space, the Projekt Theatre (Dresden, Germany) as well as during the Silesian Dance Festival (Bytom, Poland).  Her recent choreographic residencies include Rhode Island College Dance Company, Providence College Dance Company, Roger Williams University and Salve Regina University.  Katie currently teaches Dance Composition at Dean College and has had a fourteen year career as a Pilates teacher-certified through Pilates Method Alliance. BLACK WOOL:
Persistently reaching beyond sonic boundaries, Black Wool reaches through the spectrum of indie rock, free form jazz, avant-garde, and spoken word; bringing together a wide range of shapes and textures through the subtlety of elusive and often un-metered song structures, dynamic vocal delivery and an embrace toward compositional irregularities, with tendencies toward improvisation– Black Wool emanates light and warmth through pure expression, casting shadows and depth; illuminating perceptions of subconscious thought and emotion.  Black Wool is the artistic demonstration of Providence, Rhode Island based poet, William Keller.
Born and raised in Rockland County, New York. His life has been characterized by movement, new beginnings and the instability associated with change.

Evening Yoga @ AS220 Live Arts Dance Studio
Jul 9 @ 6:15 pm – 7:30 pm
Evening Yoga Yoga with Jamie Arnold // Thursdays @ 6:15-7:30pm // $13 per class; $60 for 6 classes
Class incorporates a seated centering and focus on breath connection which then leads to a gentle warm-up of the spine. After moving the spine in multiple directions, we will easily make our way to being on hands and feet and eventually flow through a simplified series of sun salutations to get the body warm. We will then explore balance postures, twists and back strengthening exercises and eventually make our way back to the floor for more restorative poses leading to savasana.

Jamie Arnold is a local yoga educator and performing artist. She has been teaching a regular gentle flow class at the East Side YMCA for 2.5 years and has taught yoga in some way shape or form through Squam Art Workshops, Now Yoga & Fitness, Fight2Fitness, Om Kids, Rhode Runner, Studio Exhale and AS220. Jamie received her 200 hour yoga teaching certification in the winter of 2012 through the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, MA. For Jamie, yoga has helped her to truly be in the present moment, let go of stress and feel like weight has been lifted from her body.

SOLO SEXX (MA)
Solo Sexx are 2 fierce, funky female MC’s from Massachusetts who are ready to to get your rusty bones lubricated and yo’ booty out of hibernation! With a fearless sense of humor and a no-holds barred attitude, Solo Sexx proves that the alternative to the add-water-and-stir rap chumpitude is funkier, fresher, and just plain sexxier than ever before.
BOLTCUTTER (RI)
Boltcutter (Riley Bradway) is an electronic musician and DJ based in Providence, RI. Citing influence from artists like Culprate, Death Grips, Queens of the Stone Age, and George Harrison (just to name a few), Boltcutter’s genre-spanning productions derive elements of rock, metal, and experimental music to create a synthetic blend of meaty basslines, soaring synthesizers, and earth-shaking drums. With releases on several record labels and international spins on FM and internet radio, it’s easy to see why Boltcutter’s music is quickly spreading throughout the United States and all over the world.
SHANE HALL (MA)
A Discordian rap star who balances the world on his hatred of the mundane.  He’s also a songwriter/rapper/producer/performer/poet type of person who does things, and hopes that you like them or that you dislike them in such a way that it will bring you pleasure.
GRIPP
Marshall “Gripp” Gillson is a nerd by day and a rapper/poet by day also. He was born in Providence, RI and is a graduate of Morehouse College. He has released three independent LPs. The most recent, “Head In The Cloud” is available on many major digital music stores. In his spare time, he enjoys arguing, pontificating, and writing biographies in the third person.

Miss Chthonic Star Dream Pageant @ AS220's Blackbox + Psychic Readings Room

Miss Chthonic Star Dream Pageant is a beauty pageant fashion show, a monstrous parade of internal realities fueled by sacrifice which thrusts labor, exploitation, and sexual/economic oppression onto the catwalk. Braiding pleasure and the abject and spiking it with a heavy dose of buffoonery, the dream pageant will entertain, amaze, and delightfully frustrate you!
WANT TO BE A STAR? In every city that the show will be produced, locals will be invited to participate as contestants in the pageant. But the experience is not what one would expect from a normal beauty pageant, if there is such a thing. Miss Chthonic is stress dream starring all of your anxieties!

The Dream Pageant was written by Ric Royer, with sound by G Lucas Crane and features members from three New York experimental theatre companies: Title:Point, Object Collection and the Psychic Readings Company.
