Open Level Modern Dance @ AS220 Live Arts Dance Studio
Jul 1 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Open Level Modern Dance with  Katie McNamara // Wednesdays @ 6:30-8pm // $13 per class; $60 for 6 classes

This open level class welcomes a wide spectrum of movers who want to explore fundamental physical connections and integrate those within expressive movement. The class begins on the floor in explorations of weight, momentum and range of motion in joints. Moving to a mid-level we will take time to condition the muscles within efficient patterns. In standing we investigate the dynamics of opposition in balance, gesture and weight shift to traverse the space across,  under and around.   All are welcome!

Katie McNamara is a dance artist, a cook, a mother and a teacher. Along with her husband Olase Freeman, she co-directs their company, BaldSoul, within which they strive to find the locus where art and life coexist.  Their most recent work is parenting a beautiful boy, Kayin Effie. Katie spent her preliminary professional years in Philadelphia where she danced with Group Motion, Scrap Performance Group and Leah Stein Dance Company. She was deeply influenced by the city’s diverse artistic community and the raw spontaneity of it‘s stage.  During this time she also co-founded and directed the Bald Mermaids, named “best new modern dance company” by Philadelphia’s City Paper.  Her work has been shown at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, Philadelphia’s Painted Bride Art Center, the Carriage House, Galapagos Art Space, the Projekt Theatre (Dresden, Germany) as well as during the Silesian Dance Festival (Bytom, Poland).  Her recent choreographic residencies include Rhode Island College Dance Company, Providence College Dance Company, Roger Williams University and Salve Regina University.  Katie currently teaches Dance Composition at Dean College and has had a fourteen year career as a Pilates teacher-certified through Pilates Method Alliance. She is pursuing a MFA in dance at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Laurie Amat, Brian 4 Ever, Paper Balls w/ David Grollman, Lucio Menegon and Jeff Barsky, + Flandrew Fleisenberg @ AS220 Main Stage
Jul 1 @ 9:00 pm – Jul 2 @ 1:00 am

From Providence and AS220:

Laurie Amat – Rare Unplugged Vocals in the Aborn Room. And then plugging it in again!

Brian 4 Ever – A new and spontaneous performance by the brilliant Brian Folan and?

From NYC: Paper Balls w/ David Grollman, Lucio Menegon and Jeff Barsky

From Philly: Flandrew Fleisenberg

We’ll be soloing, crossing over, from the lovely to the brutal. So different, even WE’LL be surprised!!!
PAPER BALLS is a new improvising trio featuring Jeff Barsky, Lucio Menegon and David Grollman. All three are active in the improvised and composed music scenes in NYC and Washington DC, with groups such as Insect Factory, Blister, Plums, Prehistoric Horse and numerous spontaneous collaborations. From wall-of-sound to mellow deep headspace, this particular twin guitar, snare drum with mild theatrics and special surprise guests adventure will satisfy many abstract desires.
FLANDREW FLEISENBERG (Percussion)
SOLO

Fleisenberg is a player of objects. Drums only fall peripherally into his spectrum, while he is mostly fascinated in coaxing out the inherent material characters of “mundane things”. These wide manipulations of external implements draw an aural architecture within the performance space as the embodied performer moves within it. Fleisenberg’s movement actions in combination with his material conjuring, creates a discourse inside of a constantly breathing tactile space.

Jul 2 @ 6:15 pm – 7:30 pm
Evening Yoga Yoga with Jamie Arnold // Thursdays @ 6:15-7:30pm // $13 per class; $60 for 6 classes
Class incorporates a seated centering and focus on breath connection which then leads to a gentle warm-up of the spine. After moving the spine in multiple directions, we will easily make our way to being on hands and feet and eventually flow through a simplified series of sun salutations to get the body warm. We will then explore balance postures, twists and back strengthening exercises and eventually make our way back to the floor for more restorative poses leading to savasana.

Jamie Arnold is a local yoga educator and performing artist. She has been teaching a regular gentle flow class at the East Side YMCA for 2.5 years and has taught yoga in some way shape or form through Squam Art Workshops, Now Yoga & Fitness, Fight2Fitness, Om Kids, Rhode Runner, Studio Exhale and AS220. Jamie received her 200 hour yoga teaching certification in the winter of 2012 through the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, MA. For Jamie, yoga has helped her to truly be in the present moment, let go of stress and feel like weight has been lifted from her body.

Live Bait’s Seven-Year Anniversary Show: “Lucky”

Live Bait considers itself to be very lucky. Lucky to have so many people – friends, family, neighbors, acquaintances and strangers – walk onto its stage and share their stories, share a piece of their souls. Lucky to be still going strong for seven years now. And Live Bait wants to show its appreciation with yet another SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY SHOW! There will be stories. There will be banter. There will be music. And streamers. And yes, there will be cake! How lucky can you get?

And with this in mind, the theme for July is “Lucky.”

If you have a true story that in any way, shape or form fits July’s theme, come to Live Bait, put your name in the fishbowl and, when your name is called, tell it. Remember: no notes, no rants, no stand-up routines, and there is a six minute time limit. Of course, all are more than welcome to simply sit back and listen. And eat cake!

Live Bait is hosted by Phil Goldman, with banter, musical accompaniment and monthly theme song by Jerry “The Professor” Gregoire.
