VIOLET / RRLEW / VALISE / MUYASSAR KURDI / GYNA BOOTLEG @ Psychic Readings
Jul 27 @ 9:00 pm – Jul 28 @ 1:00 am

VIOLET
This rarely-spotted-in-the-wild harvester of dream paralysis revelations emerges from her underground burrow to share care tips for dark familiars & ancient necromantic divination spells that really work. You won’t believe what happens next.
https://soundcloud.com/vviolett/winter-2012-tour-live

RRLEW
In a parallel universe RRLEW is the 3 time consecutive winner of Olympic gold for the modern penthalon event as well as being a celebrated astrophysicist. In this one she dominates the field of egg eating, reps Tweety Bird, and blows a mean saxophone. Sometimes our world is a fine one indeed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KUu0v1vNDU

VALISE
Multimedia addict and half human/half beast, you’ll be unsure which half rules the roost until she opens her mouth and that big voice pins you to the wall before going through your pockets for lunch money. The stars you see may be your own.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE7D4n26Vzs

MUYASSAR KURDI
A doyen of the Chicago freak/psych scene weaving words-fail vocals through a crazyquilt of skeletal rattles, unnerving drones, fuck yeah, all the bells and whistles. The labor pains of a star child being born can be the perfect soundtrack for those times you feel lost in the haunted forest of your own mind. She’s a filmmaker, author, and soapmaker too, maybe she’ll build an armoire or start an artists’ colony to kill time before the show starts.
https://muyassarkurdi.bandcamp.com/album/winter-improvisations

GYNA BOOTLEG
PVD’s messy mistress of self harm can effortlessly whistle “I’ll Be Your (Broken) Mirror” while tumbling down a shame spiral of maelstrom proportions. Protect me from what I want? Protect me from what SHE wants. Get out of the way or get dragged down, your choice.

“There are many ways in which picture framing has been made inaccessible to artists/art lovers both financially and in traditions surrounding limited visibility of process. Framing is a very concrete and straightforward skill/trade that is innately riddled with lots of imperfection and problem solving, no matter how experienced the framer. It will try your patience, and always take longer than you think. There are many different styles of framing, from white glove/museum, to production framing to DIY. I have worked in a variety of ways it is important to acknowledge that there are many ways to do the same thing. As a working artist, DIY framing is the closest hitting to home for me and I am so grateful for the opportunity to teach and provide access for others.”

Evening Yoga @ AS220 Live Arts Dance Studio
Jul 30 @ 6:15 pm – 7:30 pm
Evening Yoga Yoga with Jamie Arnold // Thursdays @ 6:15-7:30pm // $13 per class; $60 for 6 classes
Class incorporates a seated centering and focus on breath connection which then leads to a gentle warm-up of the spine. After moving the spine in multiple directions, we will easily make our way to being on hands and feet and eventually flow through a simplified series of sun salutations to get the body warm. We will then explore balance postures, twists and back strengthening exercises and eventually make our way back to the floor for more restorative poses leading to savasana.

Jamie Arnold is a local yoga educator and performing artist. She has been teaching a regular gentle flow class at the East Side YMCA for 2.5 years and has taught yoga in some way shape or form through Squam Art Workshops, Now Yoga & Fitness, Fight2Fitness, Om Kids, Rhode Runner, Studio Exhale and AS220. Jamie received her 200 hour yoga teaching certification in the winter of 2012 through the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, MA. For Jamie, yoga has helped her to truly be in the present moment, let go of stress and feel like weight has been lifted from her body.
